The Shiny Poetry Competition

It’s not just Man Booker prize season, the publication date of Issue 7 of Shiny New Books coincides (deliberately) with National Poetry Day 2015, on and it’s the 21st Birthday of this day devised by the Forward Arts Foundation to celebrate all things poetical. We hope many of you will join in events on this day.

We announced our own first writing competition in our August Extra Shiny edition choosing poetry for our inaugural challenge. Now it gets serious! Read on to find out more:

Calling all poets out there! We are looking for original poems of no more than 25 lines on the subject of ‘Reading’, and you can interpret that as widely as you like, feel free to be innovative.

Our deadline for submissions will be 19th December 2015, and we’ll be announcing the winner in our Winter edition in late-January.

The winning poem and the best runners-up will be published in the Winter edition, and the winner will receive a bookish prize courtesy of Faber & Faber.

Our judges will be Annabel and Harriet from the eds, as well as poet and reviewer, Marina Sofia and literary critic, Rob Spence.

So, all that’s left is for you to get cracking! The competition is free to enter and open internationally to anyone writing in English, but only one poem per entrant. Poems should be previously unpublished, and not have been placed in any other competition.

We’ll be keeping submissions anonymous, so when you send your poem in, email it to info@shinynewbooks.co.uk and make sure to put Poetry Comp in the subject line so that our Simon can forward entries anonymously to the judges.

Good luck! We can’t wait to read your poems!
